Dear Parents,

It I so hard to believe that on next Friday, the school year will be over.  I have thoroughly enjoyed having your child in class this year or the past two years.  Each student is such a blessing from God and they have each grown so much this school year in more ways than one.  I am always amazed at their growth as I think back to August when we started school.  Many ‘firsts’ have happened and a very big one when we moved to our new school!  Thank you for giving me the privilege to be your child’s teacher; I am truly blessed by each one and will miss them over the summer.

We have had an exciting week at school this week!

On Monday, we had a creationist come and teach us about more about creation and answered many questions about dinosaurs and how some of what science tells us about the Earth’s creation is not correct.

On Thursday, we were able to have a fun time on our field trip and we were so happy that it did not rain on us!  They all had so many favorite things from the trip when we share d them this morning; I am sure you heard them as well! J  Thank you to all the parents who came with us, we truly could not do it without you.

Today, the students enjoyed lots of various and fun activities while spending time with their friends at play day.

As the year winds down, please try and have your lunch balance as close to $0 as you possibly can.

Here are a couple things for our last week:

If you would like to order a yearbook, please have it returned by May 18th.

Please have your child bring a paper or plastic bag to help them carry their school items on Thursday, May 20.

The last day is May 21st and we will be dismissing at 1:00 p.m.

All your children are so special to me and I loved to see them grow this year!

May all you have a blessed summer!

God’s Blessings!

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone has had an enjoyable week.  We have been busily working on a special surprise for all the moms! J  They really enjoyed making them and did a fantastic job!

Here are a few things to keep in mind for the next 2 weeks.

  • Our field trip for K-2nd grade to Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead.  We will be going on Thursday, May 13th.  Please remember to send a lunch for your student.
  • Fun day is on Friday, May 14th.  Please remember to send your child’s swimsuit, shoes that can get wet (no flip flops), and another pair of dry clothes.  Thanks!
  • Registration is in full swing for next school year!  We are encouraging families to try and bring another family to our school to check us out!  Our goal is to have 75 students for the year.
  • As the year winds down, please try and have your lunch balance as close to $0 as you can.  Thank You!

In Religion, we learned about the job that Jesus has for all of us in the Great Commission no matter what age we are.  We discussed how they had this opportunity when they did the musical last week.  We were also able to learn about Jesus ascending into heaven to be with his Father.

First grade has read When I am Old With You this week.  The story was about a grandchild and her granddaddy making plans for what they will do when they get older.    Their spelling words worked with adding -ing to the end of words.   Next week is the last week for spelling.

Second grade has been writing instructions for someone else to follow.  They picked something they knew how to do and then had to write the steps for people to follow to do it themselves.  Their spelling words worked with the sound in all.  Next week is the last week for spelling.

The first grade class has learned about symmetry, flips, turns, and slides in math.  They have really done a wonderful job learning all these terms.  They will start learning about fractions next week.  The second grade class has continued to compare larger numbers and making skip counting patterns with larger numbers.  They will next conquer 3-digit addition.

In Science, we talked about how animals move and reasons that they need to move.  We examined some body coverings of different animals and learned why animals have these different coverings.

Dear Parents,

It is so hard to believe there is only three weeks of school left.  It has been awesome to see the children grow, change, and learn this year.  We were kept busy practicing for the musical this week and they did a spectacular job.  It was awesome to hear their praises in the audience and I’m sure God was so pleased and proud to hear His praises being sung in heaven.  Everything we do is done to His glory!  Here are some reminders for the last few weeks:

  • Our field trip for K-2nd grade to Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead.  We will be going on Thursday, May 13th.
  • Fun Day is coming up on May 14th.  For one of the activities planned we need six 8-12 feet 2x4s.  These do not need to be new, they can be used, painted, etc. (no nails in them please J).  If you can help us out, please let me know!
  • Registration is in full swing for next school year!  We are encouraging families to try and bring another family to our school to check us out!  Our goal is to have 75 students for the year.
  • As the year winds down, please try and have your lunch balance as close to $0 as you can.  Thank You!

In Religion, we celebrated Easter and talked about how excited Jesus’ friends and disciples were that they ran and told each other about the wonderful news.  The class also learned about Thomas and how he doubted that Jesus was alive unless he put his hands in the holes and into Jesus’ side.  We talked about how we may doubt some things or people on earth, but we never have to doubt God because His promises to us are always fulfilled.

First grade has enjoyed reading Johnny Appleseed this week.  They learned some interesting facts about him and how he traveled across the country.  We practiced adding endings to base words and how the spelling sometimes changes.  In spelling, we added the ending –ed to our words.

Second grade enjoyed their story The Class Mural.  We learned how a class worked together to make a special project for their school.  This is the last story in our book for 2nd grade.  Their spelling words were combing 2 words, not for compound words, but contractions.  Next week, we will practice our writing in writing directions.

First grade has worked on using position words to tell where an object is and giving and following directions to an object or space.  They have done a great job understanding these concepts.  The second graders have started comparing larger numbers.  We have looked at the place value to help us identify which number is greater or less than.  They enjoy using the alligator mouth to help them!

In science, we have been busy comparing plants to see how they are alike and we looked at animals to see how they are the same. The class really enjoyed the Scholastic News article this week as we read and learned about different kinds of meat-eating plants.  It is amazing how God created all of this for us!

Dear Parents,

What a great week it has been at school!  We accomplished a lot this week and we have a lot left to do in the few weeks we have left of school!

I’m sure everyone has heard that we had a visitor on Wednesday.  Our class will have a new student starting on Monday.  Her name is Abby Pascoe and her sister Victoria will also be joining the school in third grade.  Praise the Lord! J

Here are some reminders before a little recap:

  • The Spring Musical is scheduled for April 28th (there is no midweek).  It will start at 7:00 p.m. and students are asked to be here at 6:30 p.m.  Our class should wear jeans (no holes please) or jean shorts, and a SOLID color t-shirt (any color, please no print or design on shirt).
  • Our field trip for K-2nd grade to Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead.  We will be going on Thursday, May 13th.
  • Registration is in full swing for next school year!  We are encouraging families to try and bring another family to our school to check us out!  Our goal is to have 75 students for the year.
  • As the year winds down, please try and have your lunch balance as close to $0 as you can.  Thank You!

In Religion, we finished up Holy Week learning about Jesus dying on the cross for all of our sins.  Thankfully, this is not where the story ends and we will learn about His resurrection story starting next week in our new unit Alive!

The first graders read a non-fiction story this week Butterfly.  The pictures were actual photographs of a caterpillar’s life as it changes into a butterfly.  They really enjoyed the story and getting to see the neat pictures.  The spelling words focused on words beginning with ch, sh, th, and wh.  Next week, the words will focus on adding the ending –ed.

Second grade enjoyed their story Moses Goes to a Concert.  They learned how someone is deaf is able to enjoy music.  Along in our story they showed us how to sign some words and they enjoyed imitating what the picture showed us!  They were busy putting words together in spelling to make compound words and next week they will put 2 words together to make contractions.

First grade has finished up their chapter working on solid and plane shapes.  We have counted sides and corners this week along with finding ways to make a hexagon with different shapes.  We will start working on spatial sense with shapes (positions/directions/symmetry, etc).

Second grade has been busy working on place value to 1,000 and has finished the chapter.  They have done a great job writing the number in a variety of ways and able to show you with base 10 blocks.  We will take what we have learned and use it to compare 3-digit numbers.

In Science, we have started learning about living things.  We have discussed how God put certain plants and animals in different places because he made them to live there.  Also this week, we have taken some time to talk about Earth day and come up with ways to help take care of the Earth that God has given to us.   They have some great ideas!

            Here are a few reminders:

  • Trivia Night is tonight!  The class painted a beautiful pot with their handprints and fingerprints to be auctioned off.  The doors open at 6:00 p.m.
  • School Open House this weekend.  Sat. 3-4p.m. and Sun. 10:30-1:30p.m.
  • Our field trip for K-2nd grade to Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead.  We will be going on Thursday, May 13th.  Return slip and money ($5/person) by Wednesday, April 21st.

In Religion, we finished learning about Jesus washing the disciples’ feet and showing us how to be servants.  We have also learned about the Last Supper when Jesus instituted Holy Communion.  We had a chance to look at the chalice and plate we have set on our altar for chapel.  On Friday, we started the story of Jesus praying in Gethsemane.

First grade has read The Forest this week.  They learned some interesting facts about plants and animals that live in this environment.  They also worked on making compound words and endings on words.  Their spelling words were review from the previous 5 weeks.  Next week, the words will be with sh, ch, th, or wh.

The second graders are reading The Art Lesson.  It is the story of a boy who loves to do art and becomes an artist when he grows up.  Their spelling words were review from the previous weeks.  Next week, the spelling words will be compound words!

First grade has been busy learning solid shapes and their names. They enjoyed learning and saying the names.  We have sorted the solids by the attributes they have, like the number of faces or corners.  They will keep learning about these shapes and plane figures next week.

The second graders have been working on place value to the hundreds.  They have caught on quick and enjoy counting out the base 10 blocks to represent a number and writing the number out correctly.  I am very proud of how well they have caught on.

In Science, we finished learning about magnets.  We learned how a compass has a magnet in it, so the north pole of the magnet always points north.  The class saw how a bar magnet floating on a plate will rotate itself until the poles point the correct way.  Our next unit will be about kinds of living things.

Dear Parents,

What a fantastic and fun-filled week we have had! This week we celebrated being a Lutheran school with all the other Lutheran schools around the U.S.  It is so awesome knowing that we are able to touch so many lives with Christ’s love every day.

Monday was crazy colors day.  The class was filled with color from head to toe.  :  Monday afternoon, we jumped for Jump Rope for Heart.  We were down in the gym taking turns jumping for 1 hour and the whole school participated in dancing to YMCA.  I am so proud of the class and the effort they gave for this event.

I thought I was seeing double on Tuesday with Twins and/or Hat day.  The students really enjoyed dressing up with another person or wearing a favorite hat to school.

On Wednesday, we showed our school spirit and wore our Timothy gear.  We celebrated by having chapel led by Lutheran High of Kansas City.  They did a great job teaching us to be thankful for everything God gives to us, no matter how big or small.   In the afternoon, we were able to watch the talent of some of our students at school in the talent show in the gym.

I think Thursday was everyone’s favorite day:  Pajama Day.  The students loved bringing all their pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals to school along with wearing pajamas all day.  We had some special readers in the afternoon we watched a movie together.

I am sure your student will fill you in on what we did for Grandparents day.  It is a day full of fun and activities all over the school that all ages enjoy!

Here are a few notes to pass along:

  • On March 14, grades K-8 will sing at the north site during the offering at 8:00 and at the beginning of the 9:15 service.  Kids should plan to meet in the choir room at 8:00.  They will be dismissed to go to Sunday school or to attend worship with parents after they are done at 9:15.  If parents wish to have them join them in worship, they should plan to meet their child in the narthex area when they are finished singing.  Any children still remaining will be sent to Sunday School.  Remember to Spring Forward!
  • Menu Change:  On Tuesday, March 16th we will have Grilled Cheese instead of Pizza Pockets, the rest of the menu will stay the same.
  • Open House on March 22 from 1:30 – 7:00 p.m.  We are encouraging every family to bring another family to our school.
  • It is not too late to register for next year!  Our goal is to have 75 students next school year.
  • Tickets for Trivia Night (April 16th) will be sold on these Sundays before and after church services:  March 21, 28, and April 11.  (Prices:  $15/ticket or $110 for a table of 8)  A note will be sent home soon with more information about this fun night!
  • The Spring Musical is scheduled for April 28th (there is no midweek).  It will start at 7:00 p.m. and students are asked to be here at 6:30 p.m.

Dear Parents,

We have had a terrific week at school.  The class has been busy learning about and interested in Martin Luther King, Jr. They even were able to express their dream for the world.  Their dreams were awesome and the papers we made into a class book.

Here are a few notes for the next couple weeks:

  • Our school is starting a new mission project.  We want to send money to Haiti to help them recover.  The school’s goal is to raise $1,500 by the end of February.  Please send your coins and see how our thermometer grows.
  • Morning with mom/special person is next Wednesday.
  • A note will be coming home about February parent/teacher conferences next week; please watch for it.
  • Timothy has set Super Bowl Sunday, Feb 7th, to collect soup for the Blue Springs Community Services League.   TLS families can participate by bringing in soup any time during the week of February 1 – February 5.  We’re reaching out into the community with the love of Jesus by donating soup for families needing help during these especially difficult economic times.   Stock up on soup sales now!   Campbell’s soup and Best Choice labels from the soup cans will benefit TLS!

Here is what we have been learning about this week!

This week in Religion, we read how Jesus’ was baptized and learned a big word Sacrament and what it means.  We discussed what artifacts we have at our homes from our own baptisms.  The class also learned about Jesus choosing his disciples who would work with him spread the word about him.

First grade has become authors this week.  Each one has written a personal narrative about something that has happened to them in their life.  Their spelling words were review words from the previous five weeks.

The second graders were able to read one of their favorite stories this week, Officer Buckle and Gloria.  I think they find something new in the pictures each time we read it.  We discussed r-controlled vowels especially ar.  The spelling words they had were also review from the previous lists.

The first grade has started learning about place value.  This week we have talked about making groups of ten and counting tens and ones to make 2 digit numbers. The second grade finished the chapter on 2-digit subtraction and has done a wonderful job.  Next week, they will start learning about money and then on to time.

The class continued to learn about weather.  We talked about the sun and its warmth and how we can use the shade to cool off.  Hopefully, we will see some sun soon!

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school!  I hope everyone had an enjoyable winter break and holidays with those you love.  It sounded like the students enjoyed having a couple days off last week because of the snow.  The students are doing such a wonderful job since we have been back.  They are enjoying seeing their friends and learning new things in school.

Here are a few notes for the next couple weeks:

  • No School on Monday, Jan. 18th for M.L.K. Jr. Day
  • A note will be coming home about February parent/teacher conferences soon; please watch for it.  I ask for you to bring your student with you for this conference.
  • Our 5th-8th grade boys and girls are busy with basketball games.  We hope you can catch them in action.  Please check the school’s website for dates, times, and location. J
  • There are lots of dates at the end for upcoming events in January and February; please check them.

Here is what we have been learning about this week!

This week we learned about the wise men coming to visit Jesus and how God kept them safe from Herod.  We also learned about Jesus in the temple when he was 12.  It just makes you wonder what Jesus was like at this age and how he liked learning about Himself from other people.

First grade was very excited to receive new books last week.  They read the story Moving Day about a crab who is in search for the perfect home and Me on the Map and how we can use maps to find our own place.  The whole group was excited to learn a new funny sounding word: antonym!  Our spelling words were color words this week and we will have review words next week.

Last week, second grade read Jamaica Louise James and how her BIG idea changed her neighborhood.  They have been busy this week reviewing stories and practicing to write a friendly letter.  You may have already seen their letter; some were very eager to mail it.  Their spelling words focused on the vowel sound in moon.  We will have review words next week.

Making, using, and understanding bar graphs and picture graphs have kept the first graders busy in math.  They understand this very well and will start learning about place value next week.

The second grade continues to tackle 2-digit subtraction.  They have done a wonderful job and I am very proud of them.  Occasionally, they will still get tripped up on regrouping.  We really focused on using addition to check subtraction and estimating differences.

We have started Science for the third and fourth quarters.  They are very, very excited about this.  Our first unit is about weather and seasons.  We made a chart for a week to keep track of the weather and drew and wrote about what we like to do in our favorite type of weather.

Dear Parents,

The kids have had a great week this week.  They are all excited for the little break next week and getting ready for the Christmas Service.  We have been working hard and learning many new things this week.

Here are a few of highlights and notes for the coming weeks and check the dates at the end for a further schedule:

  • We will not have school next week; the teachers will be at a conference and in honor of Thanksgiving.  Have an enjoyable time with your family and remember all the wonderful blessings God has given to you.
  • Please continue to practice the Christmas songs and the lines with your child.  The program is Dec. 10 at 7:30 in the school gym.
  • Basketball is starting soon for TLS; please note the TLS boys play with Messiah’s team.  If you would like to go to a game, the schedule is available on the school website: www.timothylutheranschool.com

In Religion this week, we finished learning about David and how God looks at our hearts and not at the outside of a person.  As a leader, Solomon was a wise king and did not just worry about himself, but looked out for the benefit of the people.  We also talked about Jehoshaphat and how he asked God to help the people and protect them from the three armies that were attacking them.  We have been learning about God’s faithfulness in Chapel and God was faithful to these leaders and still for us today.

All of the students are doing an awesome job with their reading.  I am so proud of them and their progress!  The first grade read The Best Pet this week.  They enjoyed the story and the tricks the animals did to win the prize.  Second grade read Chinatown this week.  The story is about a boy and his grandmother and things you might experience if you were to go and walk through Chinatown.  It was great to read and learn about their culture.  Both classes’ spelling words were review from the previous weeks.

First grade has been busy subtracting this week.  They are doing a great job, sometimes they need reminders to pay attention to the sign to tell whether they are adding or subtracting.  Second grade is busy working on 2-digit addition.  They are understanding this really well.  We will keep perfecting this, then move on to 2-digit subtraction.

We started a new unit called Long ago and Today.  We read about how life was different, especially transportation and communication in the past.  The class learned about the Early Americans that were here and how they helped each other. The class has also taken some time to learn about Pilgrim life and making a list of what they are thankful for.
